Plan Your Own Fence

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to create a list of the materials you need. The process will place a complete list of dog fence materials in your shopping cart. If you do not wish to purchase these materials now, simply print out the shopping cart so that you will have an effective list of materials for planning. Then remove the items from your cart. Detailed instructions for installing your fencing materials are available in our DIY (Do It Yourself) section.

Determine Your Fence Height

We provide materials for 4, 5, and 6-foot fences and can also customize taller or shorter fences. How tall the fence should be depends very much on the size, energy, and behavior of your dog. However, you do not want to put up a fence only to find that it’s too short. Therefore, we recommend erring on the side of caution by planning a fence that is definitely tall enough.

Select Your Handsome Black Fencing

Determine the type of black fencing you desire. (We specialize in black fencing because, other things being equal, black is the least obtrusive of all colors.) Choose between metal hexagrid, welded wire, and polypropylene fencing. For most fences metal hexagrid is our first choice. Strong, reliable, long-lasting, and barely visible, it’s the perfect material for most dog fences. Welded wire is stronger but also more visible, climbable, and expensive; and Polypropylene is less expensive but also prone to having holes chewed in it by your pet and local rabbits.

Once you have made your choice, take the length of your fence and add 10 per cent to make sure you do not run short of fencing. Then go to our Parts catalog and place the number of rolls needed in your shopping cart—either just for planning purposes or as part of an intended purchase.

An end is a place where the fence butts up against a building, wall, or another fence.
