Garden Fences

Garden Fences

A good way to protect your flower gardens from your own dog is by using a radio fence (see product 20-01). Besides keeping dogs inside a perimeter, the wired radio fences that we sell can also be used to set up multiple inner zones of protection. Here’s how: When the radio fence wires are twisted together they neutralize the radio signal. So if you wire your perimeter with singly run wires, twist the wires together to reach a garden or some other out-of-bounds zone, and run the wires singly around the garden, your dog will receive a warning and then a shock if it tries to leave the property, will not be shocked if it runs over the twisted wires, but will be shocked if it seeks to enter the garden. This clever system can be used to fence the perimeter of your yard, one or more gardens, and other places in the yard that you wish to make off limits to your dog.

Indoor Fences

Indoor Fences

An indoor fence sounds like a practical impossibility, but it’s not. All you do is set up a radio transmitter tuned to a receiving collar on your dog (see products 20-12, 20-12A, and 20-12B). When Rover comes in range (anywhere within a circle 1 foot to 10 feet in diameter) he will receive a harmless but effective correction and will learn to stay away from the protected area—be it a sofa, rug, trash area, front door, or whatever. The transmitter uses 3 AA batteries that will last about 6 months. You can get as many transmitters as you need to zone multiple places, and for multi-dog households you can get multiple collars. Since each transmitter comes with an A/B switch that allows you to tune it to one dog but not the other, you can also use it to keep one dog away from the other dog’s food dish, bed, etc.
