Guide to Dog Fences > Barrier Fences > Menu

Our barrier dog fence guide is organized to reflect what you want to do. Some people (most of our customers) are planning to build a new dog fence that will keep dogs in. Others want a new dog fence that will keep dogs (and/or foxes and coyotes) out. Still others are looking to modify an existing fence to serve one or another of these ends. Therefore, our guide (see menu above) is set up to consider each of these types in turn.

All of these types exhibit considerable variation. For example, a new barrier dog fence to keep dogs in can be anywhere from 2 to 6 feet high, can be especially designed to discourage digging under or climbing over, and can be almost any length. Those who want a permanent fence with a finished look are likely to use our round black posts and metal hexagrid dog fencing, while those planning less formal fences are more likely to select steel T-posts or U-posts and polypropylene dog fencing.

The guide also covers fence modifications. One of the most common requests we get is for ways to make an existing fence dog-proof. Our guide outlines the more usual ways of doing this with polypropylene or metal hex fencing, and also explains how an existing barrier fence (or even a new one) can be combined with a low-key electric dog fence to improve overall performance. Click on one of the menu headings above to find out more.
